DeepRead is an Android reader with an AI assistant. This document explains what data the app processes and why.

Summary

Your books and notes stay on your device. The only data sent to the server is what you explicitly submit to the AI assistant — without your name, account, or any link to you. There are no ads, no trackers, and no analytics.

What stays on your device

• Books and your entire library
• Reading progress, bookmarks, highlights, notes
• Personal vocabulary
• Settings: theme, font, margins, narrator voice
• Diary-calendar entries
• Kids mode: PIN (encrypted), child question log

This data is never transferred anywhere. You can create a backup manually (menu → “Export and import data”) — the file is saved wherever you choose.

What is sent to the server

Only when using AI features (explain, translate, ask about a book, talk to a character, or ask the children’s gnome):

• The text of your question and the related book fragment
• Book title and author — so the answer is relevant to that book
• IP address — technically unavoidable for any internet request; used only for rate limiting (requests per hour)

Not transmitted: your name, email, phone number, installed apps list, location, device identifiers, or advertising IDs. There is no DeepRead account — registration is not required.

Who processes the requests

AI requests are processed on the DeepRead server and sent to the DeepSeek language model to generate an answer. The model receives only the question text and book fragment — without any information about you.

How long data is stored

• The analyzed book text is stored in a temporary server cache to make repeated questions faster
• Technical logs (IP, time, request type) — no longer than 30 days
• AI response complaints (“Report answer” button) are stored with the answer text and without identifiers — they help improve filters

Children

In kids mode, AI answers pass through an additional multi-stage filter. Kids mode is enabled by a parent and requires explicit consent; without consent, the AI does not work for the child. All child questions and answers are stored in a log on the device — accessible to a parent via PIN. The app does not collect any personal data of children.

App permissions

• File access — to find and open your books
• Microphone — only for voice questions to the assistant: in kids mode and AI chat, when the button is pressed; the recording is not saved or transmitted, and Android performs speech recognition
• Internet — for AI features and update checks
• App installation — for the “Check for updates” button

Your rights

Since the app does not create accounts and does not store personal data, there is nothing to delete: simply uninstall the app, and all local data will disappear with it. If you want us to delete a complaint you submitted, write to us.

Changes

If this policy changes, the update date at the top of this page will change as well. Significant changes will be noted in the app update description.
